MEDIMIX: The origin

The birth of Medimix dates back to the time when the Cholayil family used viprathi oil as a cure for skin ailments. The year 1969 proved pivotal to the family legacy as Dr. Sidhan, a notable proponent of popularizing the system of Ayurveda as a safe and effective cure for many common ailments, combined a timeless tradition with his sharp business acumen to develop a green bar of soap that could both nourish and protect our skin. Strongly rooted in Ayurveda, this amalgamation of 18 herbs continues to protect and nourish skin effectively to this day in the most natural way possible.

Over time, Medimix has grown synonymous with “skin care, the natural way” and for generations women, indeed entire families, have placed their trust on the Medimix range of products. Currently available in 4 variants of soap, 3 variants of body wash, 1 variant of face wash, 1 variant of shampoo, 1 variant of moisturizer and 1 variant of intimate hygiene wash, Medimix is expanding its range to bring you natural skin care from across the world.

CHOLAYIL: Our heritage

Cholayil, a company that is rooted in tradition but modern in its thought and approach, strongly believes that going the natural Ayurvedic way is best for your skin. Since the 17th century, Kerala’s illustrious Cholayil family has found its calling in the great spectrum of Ayurvedic knowledge. As ‘Vaidyars’ practicing the art and science of Indian medicine, stalwarts from the family include –

Shri Manikyan Vaidyar
The first Ayurvedic practitioner of the Cholayil family, Shri Manikyan Vaidyar was known for his knowledge of the science of Ayurveda and his contribution to society.

Shri Raman Vaidyar (1845-1905)
Like his illustrious father, Shri Raman Vaidyar was a notable practitioner of Ayurveda and a renowned Sanskrit scholar.

Brahmasree Cholayil Kunju Maami Vaidyar (1865-1933)
The eldest son of Shri Raman Vaidyar, he was a great scholar and physician who made a lasting impact on Ayurveda. Kunju Maami Vaidyar trained many men in the practice of Ayurveda and was renowned across the country as a modern Dhanvanthri. It was widely believed that there was no illness that he could not cure. He was physician to Shri Narayana Guru, one of India’s great social reformers, who lauded his capability by saying “There are no numbers that cannot be divided by one, there are no diseases that cannot be cured by Maami.”

Cholayil Sankaran Vaidyar (1889 – 1952) and Cholayil Kunjumani Vaidyar (1894 – 1954)
Sons of the Brahmasree, they further enhanced the therapeutic experience of Ayurveda. While Kunjumani Vaidyar worked marvels in Indian medicine, including writing and compiling new books and translating the Thiruvalluvar’s epic poem Thirukurral, Sankaran Vaidyar took his practice far and wide, concentrating on healing complex ailments. Their innovative methods and distinctive techniques have made them legendary names in Ayurvedic therapy.

Dr. V.P. Sidhan (1931-2011)
Under his stewardship, Ayurveda reached millions and became a household name. He established Cholayil Private Limited, currently a multi-crore international FMCG organization headed by his son Pradeep Cholayil, with the latter having turned it into a global brand with markets outside India.
Over time, Medimix has grown synonymous with “skin care, the natural way” and for generations women, indeed entire families, have placed their trust on the Medimix range of products. CHOLAYIL: Always inspired by nature

Cholayil logoA company that turned to nature for a business idea, today Cholayil is the world’s largest selling Ayurveda-based personal care products company. Our flagship brand Medimix was introduced in 1969 and since then we have implemented several strategic initiatives including revamping the brand and launching new products. These judicious decisions have resulted in Medimix building a healthy legacy of more than 45 years in our domestic market as well as building a strong global footprint. An integral part of households across India, the natural touch our products can be found just as easily in a grandmother’s flawless skin as in a grand daughter’s shiny tresses.

Our vibrant logo truly embodies the soul of Cholayil. The Dhanvantri flower is symbolic of Lord Dhanvantari, the four-handed avatar of Lord Vishnu, who is regarded as the God of Ayurveda in Vedic tradition. The green and blue colors represent earth and water respectively while the red dot symbolizes the sun. Red also stands for life, positive attitude and energy. Together, they illustrate the elements of nature that come together harmoniously in the holistic healing methods of Ayurveda. The four petals of the Dhanvantari flower also stand for the culture of openness and team spirit that we as a company firmly believe in.
